July 17, 2010 – Departure & Bear Lake
The original plan: End up in Jenny Lake by the end of the day. School happened instead. We left late and spontaneously decided to stop at Bear Lake and camp there. Driving through the tourist traps, I remembered coming there as a kid, and going to some cave around there. The Garmin gave us directions and we set up camp in a campground on the way to the cave. Katie managed use her feminine charm to persuade the teenage boys employed there to let us jump in on the last, and already filled to capacity tour of the day. Pictures pretty much tell the rest of the story, other than the awkward teenage tour guide, who at the furthest point in the cave of course turned off the lights for us to get a sense of the darkness we were in, and then proceeded to tell us “Even thought you don't have the use of your eyes, you can still feel and hear and taste the walls and air around because those senses have been heightened.” Idunno – Personally, I'd rather rely on my eyes to get me back to the cave entrance, rather than sniffing my way.

ok now I totally want to go camping with you guys. you look fun. I like your roasting sticks.
Fun trip.
What a fun getaway! I'm impressed with how spontaneous you two are, too.
You guys look like you had so much fun. I'm a little envious, I'm not gonna lie. I MISS Yellowstone, the mountains, the random birds I could actually identify. Lucky (say that in your Napoleon voice). Your meals sound amazing. Next time we go camping, I'll hire you to cater.
Sounds like a camping trip to be proud of! Way to go guys, makes me want to hid the road and head to the mountains, it's too bloody hot to camp in Missouri!
Yeah, I was most nervous about what to cook - I really haven't been camping much (besides girl's camp, and who can remember what you ate except for the stuff that you weren't supposed to bring, but that you sneaked into your bag anyway). But Brett's mom suggested the spaghetti and the Rouladin - we were smart enough to think of sandwiches and hot dogs ourselves.
Cambrie - let's go! Maybe next summer... or will you have time for the mountain when you're here next month?
Erica - we did actually plan this one out... a whole couple of days longer than we planned our trip to Cancun last year, actually.
Holly - we thought of you guys a lot while we were up there. What exactly does Dave do for the parks? We saw Big Piney on the map and had a moment of silence for you.
Ali - you're the one who moved away... so...
Thanks for the rundown of the trip...I can almost imagine being there along side you....well....not too close you being stinky and all. Good blog post! Good pictures too.
Great pictures, and I love the commentary on them. Brett, the picture of you at the "Dragons mouth" totally looks like the monster Kim likes to use on the blog at times. But today it is a skeleton. Whatever. I think you know which one I am talking about! Were you trying to do a look alike??!! ;)
